Definition Control over behavior or control over emotions in service

for control over behavior.

  • Aspects
    • Resisting temptations and not acting impulsively.
    • Having the discipline to stay on task despite distractions/temptations to give up/leisure/more interesting tasks. Which is related to the final aspect of self-control:
    • Delaying gratification.
  • Usually in the form of competition between the desire to do x and to do y, but it’s not necessary. e.g., not to blurt out the first response.
