Inhibitory Control

Elements

  • Interference Control, which can be at two levels:
    • Perceptive Inhibition = Selectively paying attention, aka inhibitory control of attention.
    • Cognitive Inhibition = Suppressing prepotent mental representations, resisting emotions and thoughts, including intentional forgetting.
  • Self-control = Control over behavior or control over emotions in service for control over behavior.
    • Resisting temptations and not acting impulsively.
    • Having the discipline to stay on task despite distractions/temptations to give up/leisure/more interesting tasks. Which is related to the final aspect of self-control:
    • Delaying gratification.

Interference Control seems not to be the issue. It's Self-Control!
