Read-Later Apps

Readwise is NOT a read-later app

Readwise is an integration tool for syncing highlights collected from multiple platforms to notes apps. However, Readwise Reader IS a read-later app.

Choices

Watch out Chinese content

  • Some content from Chinese platforms can’t be dealt with properly.
  • Chinese fonts are not supported in some apps.
  • Raindrop.io
    • Claims itself to be an “all-in-one bookmark manager”, not quite the same thing as read-later apps
    • Supports annotation feature is more of a “bi-product”.
    • Extremely helpful for saving heterogeneous contents.
    • Collection sharing feature
  • Pocket
    • Claims to be “your own private corner of the web to spend quality time with great articles.”
    • Has curated news feed feature.
    • Does NOT support annotation! Only one highlighter color.
    • No folder support. Tags are available
  • Instapaper is similar to Pocket, but looks like it has less features, the official website of it is also less intriguing.
    • Also supports curated news feed
    • Supports folder, but no sub-folder allowed.
    • Speed-reading feature
  • Matter
  • Readwise Reader
    • Is builtin in Readwise.
    • This deals poorly with Zhihu answers.
  • Cubox
    • Is developed by Chinese team.
    • Most importantly, it’s based on Swift UI (nice)
    • BEST in terms of UI/UX!
    • Is the only app has support for Chinese fonts.
    • Supports forwarding WeChat articles (useful)
  • mymind
    • Smaller user base compared to Raindrop.io
    • Pricing…
